The 2010 Shikari Cup* will
be run on the 1st of August at
the Windemere Shooting Complex, Mudgee NSW, (To see where
that is, click here). |
| |
*
The Shikari Cup was formally run as the Merkel Cup, but
the name has been changed to allow greater support from
all manufacturers of hunting rifles and equipment. |
*
A
Shikari is a big game hunter, especially in India. The word
is derived from Persian Shikar (of hunting) + Persian suffix
i (denoting possession). |
|
 |
The
Shikari Cup is open to
ANYONE
who has a valid shooters license. |

|
The
precision events will be longer range events where the shooter
has ample time to fire his/her shots. |
| The
practical events will be timed events where your score is
adjusted by the time you take to complete each practical event,
i.e. a good score in a fast time will beat a perfect score
in a slow time but, of course, a fast miss is still a miss,
so this is a test of marksmanship and speed. |
| Entry
into each event is $2.50,
and $20.00 will get you into all eight (8) events. |

Cup Rules |
| The
Shikari Cup is a competition for hunting
rifles and is a test of marksmanship skills that are
applicable to the hunter. Accordingly, the following rules
apply to this competition: |
| * |
To
compete in the Shikari Cup you must be
using hunting rifles fitted
with typical hunting sights.
Please adhere to the spirit of this event and leave your
target, varmint, silhouette and any other form of competition
rifles at home. |
| * |
Hunting
rifles may be bolt action, lever action, pump action, single
shot, double or combination guns. |
| * |
All
shooting is to be done with your rifle held in your hands
without any other form of support or assistance, i.e. slings,
bipods and any other form of shooting rest will not
be permitted. |
| * |
Optical
sights are permitted but the maximum magnification allowed
is 6 power (6x). Variable riflescopes must be set, and taped,
to no more than 6x. |
| * |
Ammunition
should be factory ammunition or handloads which are equivalent
to factory ammunition in the calibre you are using. For the
Shikari Cup, this means that your velocities must be within
10% of the published factory ballistics for your cartridge.
Wildcat cartridges will be compared to the closest equivalent
factory cartridge. There will be a chronograph at the range
and any shooter can be called upon, at any time during the
competition, to shoot their rifle over the chronograph. If
your loads are not factory equivalent then your scores will
not be counted. |
| * |
You
do not have to own four (4) different calibres to compete
in the Shikari Cup. Each event specifies only a MINIMUM calibre.
For example: If you only own a .223 then you can only compete
in Events 1 and 2, but if you also owned a .35 Whelan, or
similar, you could then shoot Events 1 to 6. Alternatively,
if you only owned something like a .416 Rigby then you could
shoot all eight (8) events with the one rifle. In summary,
you can shoot multiple events with the one rifle provided
it meets the minimum calibre restrictions. |
|
 |
The
winner of the Shikari Cup must compete in all eight (8) events,
but the winner will be determined on an aggregate of each shooter's
best six scores. |
 |
Prizes
and certificates will be awarded for first place in each event.
2nd and 3rd place getters will receive frameable certificates of
their achievement. |
